English Extension Program 2022

Throughout 2022, our school has offered two extension programs, one in our junior school and the other in our upper school. The programs were offered to select students who demonstrated high capability in English and enjoyed creative writing.

The year 5 and 6 students read and analysed the book ‘Inside Out and Back Again’ by Thanhha Lai, a novel written in verse. Students looked closely at the free verse poetry and were able to produce powerful poems using the novel as a mentor text.

The Year 1/2 children wrote and audio-published their own ‘Mr Men’ and ‘Little Miss’ books, inspired by the author Roger Hargraves. Their ‘author’s purpose’ and goal were to write a story based on one of our School Values. The children in both groups have worked enthusiastically to learn and develop their writing skills. We are very proud and excited to share their work.

Writing Extension Program 2021

During Term 4 2021, our school has offered an extension writing program called ‘The Creative Writer’, to select students in Years 5 and 6 to help them extend their writing. The students and staff involved in this program have been challenged with lockdowns and remote learning, yet the writers persevered. We are very proud of the children who took part in the extension writing program. Their effort and eagerness to learn has been evident throughout the term. The writers are very excited to share their short stories that they are currently working on.

Attitudes to School Survey

At Edgars Creek Primary School we value student voice to help us continually improve student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction. We conduct the Student Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) annually to identify what our students think of school.

The AtoSS is an annual online student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist us as a school to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions and experience of school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer and family relationships, resilience, bullying, mental health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

The below PDFs contain some more information about the Student Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS), that all students are invited to participate in.
